Diatoms: A Game of Microscopic Proportions

Diatoms is a tile-placement and pattern-building game where players craft their own microscopic mosaics inspired by a fascinating Victorian art form. On each turn, you’ll place algae colony tiles, collect colorful diatoms, and arrange them on your personal board to form an intricate design. Scoring rewards clever strategy, from matching colors and varied shapes to achieving symmetry along your mosaic’s central lines. With each play, a rotating “guest judge” card introduces fresh scoring challenges, ensuring no two games are alike. Diatoms also includes a solo mode, where you’ll take on mosaic commission prompts to test your skills in creative design and careful planning. Designed for 1–4 players, ages 8 and up, and plays in about 30–45 minutes.

Why you’ll love this:

  • Engaging tile-placement gameplay with both strategy and artistry
  • Create beautiful mosaics inspired by real diatom arrangements
  • Dynamic scoring system with color matching, shape variety, and symmetry goals
  • “Guest judge” cards add variety and replayability every game
  • Includes a solo variant with commission prompts for creative solo play

A thoughtful blend of science and strategy, Diatoms lets you build a mosaic that’s as rewarding to admire as it is to play.
