The strange-looking Macrauchenia looked like a cross between a llama and a tapir, though it is debated whether it had a trunk. It lived in South America during the last Ice Age roughly 10,000 years ago. Charles Darwin excavated a type specimen during the voyage of the Beagle. It played a part in the theory of evolution.
